About the event

Advocacy Day returns to City Hall on Wednesday, May 14

Date: May 14th

Time: 9am- 2pm

Location: Milwaukee City Hall, 200 E. Wells Str.

Common Council members Milele A. Coggs, Mark Chambers, Jr., Andrea M. Pratt, Larresa Taylor and Sharlen Moore are inviting the public to attend Advocacy Day at City Hall. The event, taking place from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, will feature remarks from former Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes and aims to help empower residents on how to advocate for themselves with city resources.

The event will include a variety of workshops that will support self-advocacy. A business workshop will equip residents with essential knowledge and skill for starting and sustaining a business. The housing workshop will provide valuable insights to support your neighborhood, including strategic approaches to influence outcomes for meaningful change. The safety workshop will share tools needed to ensure basic public safety needs are met in local communities. The Milwaukee Urban League Young Professionals will be a part of the event, and various city departments and local agencies will provide valuable knowledge on available resources as well as tips and tricks on how to best navigate city processes.

“There are an abundance of city resources available to help residents advocate for themselves and their neighborhoods on a daily basis. The goal of Advocacy Day is to break down any barriers to access this information, and equip all attendees with tangible items they can take home with them to start the self-advocacy process,” said the Council Members.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is requested and can be accessed HERE!

Registration will also be available at City Hall on the day of the event
