About the event

Pu

blic invited to help decorate huge BRONZEVILLE wood letters as part of Bronzeville Week art project

The huge wood letters that spell out B-R-O-N-Z-E-V-I-L-L-E are in place along W. North Ave. (near N. 5th St.), and the public will once again have the chance to decorate them during the 2026 Bronzeville Cultural & Arts Festival taking place on Sunday, August 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs said today.

The huge letters are works of art paying homage to the rich history of artists who have lived and worked in Bronzeville, and Pamela Graham (a local leather artist) will begin decorating parts of the letters starting at 3:30 p.m. TOMORROW - Tuesday, July 28. Ms. Graham also plans to be at the site at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday (July 29) and again on Friday (July 31), weather permitting.

As part of the festival on Sunday, August 2, residents will have a chance to participate in decorating the wood letters.

“We look forward to engaging the community each August in a positive and colorful collective art project – the Bronzeville letters at 5th and North,” Alderwoman Coggs said. “I invite residents and families to take part in a major public art project where there’s no previous art-making experience needed in creating amazing art.”

The 16th annual Bronzeville Week will run from August 1 – 8. To view the full schedule of events, please visit the Bronzeville Week Facebook page.
