What's Happening at the old A.O. Smith site?

Milwaukee, Wis-Dec. 16, 2025: Have you been curious about what is happening at the old A.O. Smith site at 35th and Capitol?

The City of Milwaukee and its partners are excited to launch an engagement website to support the redevelopment of the 13.8-acre vacant parcel at 3940 North 35th Street!

A bit of background:

• This property was acquired by the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee (RACM) in partnership with Business Improvement District (BID) 37 in 2019.

• In 2023, RACM received an EPA Brownfield Cleanup Grant to be used for site remediation to support of future site redevelopment.

• During this time, RACM and partners have been working to better understand site infrastructure and environmental conditions. This information is essential to prepare the site for cleanup and redevelopment.

Next steps for the project include:

• Designing the site remediation and preparing environmental documentation

• Supporting a market analysis that will look at the market viability of different types of land uses at the site

• Collecting community feedback on their memories of the site and ideas for its future!
